Our Principal Consultant is Mr Peter Taylor. His involvement with oil spills began in 1986, when a freighter, the Kowloon Bridge, went aground in south-west Ireland. The stricken vessel spilled its heavy fuel oil along the rocks and sandy beaches of a beautiful coastline. Peter became closely involved in monitoring the spill's impacts, drawing on his background as a biologist. It set the scene for a career in the oil spill business that continues to this day.
What's in a name... why Petronia?
When we established the company, we wanted a name that was easy to remember and suggested a link to our area of expertise. Our thoughts soon turned to the shared Latin root of the Principal's given name (Peter or 'Petrus' - meaning rock) and the word petroleum ('petrus' and 'oleum' - meaning rock/mineral oil). We liked the dependability and reliability suggested by the 'Petrus' root.

Petronia petronia is the Latin name for a bird commonly known as a rock sparrow. We felt that borrowing this name gave an added dimension to the company's branding - that of lightness, independence and freedom. So a feather became the logo and Petronia was born.
